SBIRT is a public health model to identify and intervene with individuals who are misusing substance.

S = Screening

B = Brief intervention

I = Intervention

RT = Referral to Treatment

It should be a model that is universally adopted across all health care settings.

Goals / Objectives:

  1. To be able to state what SBIRT stands for
  2. To understand the importance of universal adoption in all health care settings.
  3. Become familiar with SBIRT process

Monica Edgar, APRN, MLADC, is the acting Director of the Substance Use Services (SUS), an outpatient treatment agency for Substance Use Disorders and has been in the field of substance use treatment for over 30 years.
