Presenter: Serena Duckrow Fonda, PHD, ATR-BC, NCC

PLEASE NOTE: This SIS is a follow-up to Serena Duckrow and Jordan Elias' "Art & Music Therapy: Creative Collaborations" presentation held on Nov. 9, 2017. All are nevertheless welcome to attend regardless of previous attendance.

Presenter Bio: 

Serena has been working in the field of Art Therapy for the last ten years. As a board-certified and registered art therapist, as well as a nationally certified counselor, she has worked with children, teens, adults, and families in various settings. As an art therapist, she worked in hospitals, camps, assisted living and memory care facilities, state prisons, state hospitals, and as an independent contractor for outpatient substance use groups. She has worked with people who have severe and persistent mental illnesses, pervasive developmental disorders, and those looking to clarify difficult life transitions. Serena has a Master of Arts degree in Art Therapy Counseling from Marylhurst University and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Expressive Therapies from Lesley University. She specializes in depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders and has have extensive training in Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Goals/objectives:

1. As a result of this workshop, participants will be able to describe the materials used in art therapy.

2. As a result of this workshop, participants will synthesize and apply one art therapy experiential.

3. As a result of this workshop, participants will be able to evaluate and understand when to make art therapy referrals.

4. As a result of this workshop, participants will demonstrate knowledge of populations served, and goal areas addressed by art therapists.
