AOTA Capitol Hill Day

  • 24 Sep 2012
  • Washington, D.C.
Dear State Leader,

On September 24, just under two months away, AOTA members and students will have the opportunity to participate in the 2012 AOTA Capitol Hill Day. I want to strongly encourage you, as a state leader, to make room in your schedule to attend Hill Day 2012 so that you too can be a part of OT’s advocacy team on Capitol Hill.

Over the course of the past 5 years AOTA Hill Day has grown and in 2011 over 400 occupational therapy professionals and students from almost 25 states participated in Hill Day. Their excitement and enthusiasm was striking and they made a real difference for OT!

This year our goal is to have OT’s and OT students from every state across the country participating in Hill Day. I want to encourage you to be an active participant in the process. If your schedule does not permit you to attend perhaps you might consider extending this invitation to one of your colleagues.
We need YOU more than ever. The political climate and the partisanship in Washington present challenges that require your active participation. Issues critical to occupational therapy and the people we serve are front and center before Congress and we need YOUR voice to help us cut through the static. The Medicare Therapy Cap, OT’s Role in Mental Health, Home Health, with Veterans and more-- all are yet to be decided.
The AOTA Federal Affairs staff is working hard to ensure that occupational therapy is part of the solution. But they cannot do this alone. Your active support is needed so that the voice of occupational therapy is heard loud and clear on Capitol Hill. Your legislators need to hear first hand from you, about how specific legislation, or the lack thereof, impacts you, your clients and your communities. Capitol Hill Day is the perfect opportunity for you to help make a difference for our profession and our clients.
Bring a colleague, bring your family, and bring a friend to AOTA’s Capitol Hill Day on September 24, 2012. Be a part of the solution! Fill out the attached registration form and return it today via mail, e-mail or fax.
All of the information you need can be found on AOTA’s Hill Day Web page, which will be updated regularly.
