OT Children and Youth SIS Meeting

Wed. 2/12/14, 6:30 – 8:30 pm

Rundlett Middle School Concord, NH

On Target OT - to help when evaluating and planning treatment for kids with fine and gross motor delays

presenter:  Lisa Shooman, MS, OTR/L,BSS, CLVT

Lisa somehow found our SIS group and offered to come talk to us without a fee.  She sounds

excellent, has a 5 star rating on her web site - (Not Lisa Shoman).  She overcame a developmental delay as a young child and went on to earn her master’s degree in occupational therapy from Columbia University in 1996.  Lisa completed internships in OT at Children’s Hospital in Boston and the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine in New York City.  She has over 17 years of clinical and research expertise as a therapist in child development including behavioral psychology, low visual disturbance, handwriting and motor skill development.  Lisa is the founder of FUNction Therapy for Kids, where she now serves as a coach to children with developmental challenges to help them overcome their diagnoses and succeed.  She is also a mother, is certified in SI and ABA and has an article coming out in AJOT in 2014!  She has 3 publications- a book, a toy kit and a DVD for sale, a $75.00 value and she is offering attendees all 3 items for $49.00.

The audience will learn  the foundational components for developing motor skills in children, be able to identify problems that children have with these foundational components and learn at least 3 new exercises and activities to help children improve during their treatment sessions.  Her resources are all recent so she is an evidence based therapist.  In 2012 she designed and published the GraspRite Method, an intervention for improving foundational  motor movements and reflex integration in young children.

I am excited about this, and appreciate her willingness to travel and meet with us.  I hope to have a substantial turnout and people should feel free to invite parents, colleagues, etc.
