Considering retained primitive reflexes, sensory processing and neuromuscular concerns.
This presentation will provide a collaborative protocol of how OT/PT can work together to assess and provide intervention to the child with idiopathic toe walking, resulting from retained primitive reflexes, and/or sensory processing issues. This presentation will provide the learner with an understanding and skills to complete a collaborative approach of assessment, including reflex and sensory assessments, considering underlying neurological function in addition to assessment of the musculoskeletal needs of the child. Intervention activities will be discussed following the collaborative protocol. Through the use of the protocol, the underlying skills impacting function and developmental skills are more readily addressed producing better functional outcomes in a timelier manner.
