    Topic: Low Vision for the Generalist Occuptional Therapy Practitioner

    This talk will discuss some of the common vision problems among the geriatric population and the functional implications of low vision. It will then address what the generalist OT practitioner (OT/OTA) can do in terms of vision screening and interventions as well as how and when to refer for low vision services. There will be a practical exploration of some commonly issued aids to assist individuals with low vision as well as instruction on quick and easy ways to modify someone's iPhone/iPad, Android device, or PC to make it more accessible for persons with low vision. Resources and handouts will be provided.
    1. Attendees will be able to identify the process for referring a client to low vision services. 
    2. Attendees will be able to identify interventions appropriate to the generalist OT/OTA practitioner. 
    3. Attendees will be able to identify methods for quickly adapting smartphones, iPads, and PCs for low vision clients.
