Psychopharmacology for Improving Mental Health

Objectives: 

Attendees of this Zoom presentation will learn the rationale for prescribing the medications to treat symptoms of depression, anxiety, psychosis and mania. The mechanism of action will be discussed along with the classification of the different types of medications and their clinical applications. Scott will also discuss ways that he ensures his patients are getting current information about medications and who they might follow up with if they have questions post hospitalization.

Presenter: Scott Sullivan-Congdon DNP, APRN, CNE - Director of Clinical Operations Behavioral Health Administration

Scott began his nursing education in 2005 at Rivier College earning an associate's degree. Scott went on to earn a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree as a psychiatric nurse practitioner from Rivier University. Finally, Scott went on to earn a doctorate nursing practice degree from the University of Alabama. Scott has been practicing advanced nursing since 2017. Scott has worked in psychiatric medicine for New Hampshire State prison system, in the community at Amoskeag Mental Health in Manchester, and as a director of clinical operations for behavioral health for Riverbend Community Mental Health Center, embedded in Concord Hospital. Scott specializes in the medication management of psychiatric illness. He is also a certified nurse educator and enjoys not only treating patients but educating the next generation of providers. Scott has been happily married for many years, has an adult grown son, and has been working as an adult foster care provider for the developmentally disabled for over 30 years, having 1 client in his home for 28+ years. In his free time Scott enjoys cooking, gardening, time spent by the ocean, and boating.
